Bringing in help check
Type in what you quoted the client, what the helper charges, materials, and your own remaining hours. See what is left, the margin it leaves, and what your freed-up time is worth. Updates live as you type. No signup, nothing saved, nothing sent anywhere.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. We never receive the client names and amounts you type. We never store them. They are gone when you close the tab. Why we can say that →
Bringing in help check calculator
Quoting, the site visit, briefing, checking, and invoicing.
Used to value your remaining hours and any days freed up.
Add the price you quoted the client, and either a day rate and days, or a fixed price for the helper, to see the numbers.
This only totals the numbers you typed in. It does not know a market day rate or a typical margin for your trade — it shows what this one job leaves once the helper and materials are paid, nothing more.
Want the method behind deciding to bring someone in at all? Read getting help on a job. Need the wording? See the bringing in help scripts, or all free tools.
Why the client price and the helper cost gate the result
Neither number on its own says anything about what bringing in help actually leaves you. Once both are typed, this tool can show what is left after the helper and materials are paid, and what your own remaining hours on the job are actually worth.
Why days freed are valued separately
The margin left on this one job is only half the picture. Bringing in a helper for a day rate also frees up your own time — the days-freed figure values that time at your own target rate, so you can see whether the bigger win here is the margin or the time.
For what to agree with a helper before the job starts, and what to charge for carrying the risk and the admin, read getting help on a job.
Common questions
Should I take on a subcontractor for this job, or turn it down?
This tool does not decide that for you. It prices the bringing-in-help route once you know roughly what the helper will charge. To decide between help, passing the job on, or turning it down, read getting help on a job.
Do I mark up what the helper charges me?
The amount left after helper and materials, above, shows what stays with you once the helper is paid. To set the markup itself, use the markup & margin calculator.
What counts as my own hours still spent?
Any hour on this job that is still yours while the helper does the physical work. That includes quoting, the site visit, briefing the helper, checking the finished work, and invoicing the client. Do not count hours you pay the helper for.
Why does the result wait for a client price and a helper cost?
Neither number alone shows what bringing in help leaves you. Type your quoted price. Then type either a day rate with days, or a fixed price for the helper. The result then appears. A typed 0 counts as an answer. An empty field does not.
Where does the 8-hour day for “days freed” come from?
It is a plain assumption in the tool, not a rate to charge. The tool values each day freed at your target hourly rate times 8 hours. You can then compare that figure with the margin the job kept.
Want the invoice to stay straight once help is involved?
BizBinder has no concept of a subcontractor or a helper on a job — it does not split a job between two invoices, and it does not manage who you bring in. What it does do is keep the one invoice you send to the client accurate and tracked, whatever the mix of your own work and anyone else's sits behind it.
