Discount check calculator
Materials, subcontractors, and anything else the job itself costs you.
A dollar amount off the price above — not a percentage.
This job has no profit to discount from — your costs already match or beat the price. Cutting the price here comes straight out of your own pocket, not your margin.
What the client sees. The profit share above is usually bigger.
More of a job like this one, at the new price, just to make up what you gave away.
Cheaper materials, less time, or a smaller scope — take this much cost out and the discount costs you nothing.
Want the four honest ways to answer “that’s too much” before you touch the price? Read holding your price. Need the exact wording? See the price-pushback scripts, or all free tools.
Why the share of profit, not the share of the price
Ten percent off the price sounds small. Measured against your profit instead of the price, the same ten percent can be forty percent or more — because a discount always comes out of the margin, not the whole number. This tool runs that arithmetic on your own figures, so “a bit off” has an actual size before you agree to it.
Two ways to hold your margin instead
The extra-work figure shows what it takes to earn the discount back through volume — more of the same job, at the lower price. The cost-to-cut figure shows the other route: removing that much cost from the job itself, through a smaller scope or a cheaper material, keeps your profit exactly where it started. Holding your price covers both options in full, plus two more that don’t touch the number at all.
Once you’ve decided the discount is worth it, or isn’t, the price-pushback scripts have the wording for holding the line, offering the scope cut, or declining politely.
Want the agreed price to stay agreed?
BizBinder won’t decide whether to give this discount — that call is still yours. What it does is keep the job’s price on the job record once you’ve settled it, so the number you land on here is the number the invoice actually carries.
